Carolyn Hove has been the solo English horn player with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra since 1988. Following graduation from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, until she assumed the English horn position with the San Antonio Symphony in 1986, Hove had an active musical career in the Chicago area. She has long been a champion of New Music beginning with her affiliation with Ralph Shapey and the Contemporary Chamber Players of the University of Chicago and continuing with various other ensembles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s New Music Group.

In 1996, Crystal Records released Hove's first solo CD, 20th Century Music for English Horn and Oboe. Her second CD, Ascending to Superlatives was released by Crystal Records in 2000 and features the English horn in various chamber settings. Her third CD, Eclecticism, was released by Crystal Records in June of 2011 and contains music representing a wide variety of styles.

Hove has appeared as a soloist in many venues and performed many U.S. and world premieres. In January 2003, she performed the world premiere of the Concerto for English Horn and Orchestra by William Kraft, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as work that was commissioned by the orchestra and written expressly for her.

She has presented numerous Master Classes throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Asia. In addition, she has presented the annual seminar “English Horn Master Classes with Carolyn Hove” at Brigham Young University, Ball State University, and Columbus State University.
