Laurie Lang has been a registered nurse for over 40 years and has experience in many areas of nursing including critical care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, heart failure, and school nursing. As a nurse manager, she worked at a large ambulatory care center in downtown Los Angeles and was responsible for all of the cardiopulmonary services throughout Southern California. Laurie is a doctoral candidate in APU’s PhD in Nursing program. Her research focus is on self-care methods of homeless people with hypertension. She has presented research posters on heart failure, diabetes, and healthcare access and utilization in the chronically homeless at Sigma Theta Tau Odyssey, Western Institute of Nursing, the Academy of Nursing, and APU's Research conferences. She is committed to encouraging undergraduate students to participate in research opportunities and has been a mentor to students who have joined her research studies.
Lang began teaching at APU as an adjunct faculty member in 2006 and has served as a full-time assistant professor since 2010. Prior to APU, she taught in the RN-BSN and Entry-Level Masters programs at California State University, Fullerton. Her teaching specialties are pathophysiology and leadership and management in nursing. As the Curriculum Specialist for the School of Nursing, her primary responsibilities are curriculum development and student learning assessment and evaluation. She serves on the School of Nursing Curriculum Committee, Undergraduate Studies Council, the Undergraduate Curriculum Review Committee, Professional Studies Council, and Professional Studies Curriculum Review Committee.
