A Message from the President: Medical Leave
Dear APU Community,
When first diagnosed with the recurrence of cancer, my chief concern was leading APU with the full vitality and energy required. I was asked by the trustees to remain engaged as president, partnering with Dr. Mark Stanton.
Now that I’m experiencing the cumulative impact of chemotherapy, I have come to recognize the complexity of managing my health while leading the university day to day. In reflection and after conversations with my family, care team, and trustee leadership, I have decided to take a medical leave for the duration of this treatment regimen. Dr. Stanton will continue as provost, guiding day-to-day operations and reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, assisted by the Presidential Advisory Committee.
I know these are difficult days, but it is with the certainty of having lived the last five decades in the APU community and in support of our Christ-centered mission that I can say with deep conviction that our best days are ahead. Please know that I think of you often and pray for you daily.
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
(Numbers 6: 24-16, NSRV)
