Meet the Staff

  • Paul W. Ferguson, PhD, DABT

    President

    Prior to his role as APU’s 17th president, Ferguson held leadership positions at five public universities, including as president of Ball State University and president of the University of Maine. He most recently served as the founding dean of the School of Science, Technology and Health at Biola University.

  • Andrew Barton, EdD

    Vice President for Strategic Planning and Mission Integration, Chief of Staff

    Barton provides executive leadership and oversight to the University Strategic Plan, alongside executive-level engagement with the President and University Board of Trustees on issues of strategy and mission. He ensures the successful design, integration, implementation, and assessment of the University Strategic Plan, consistent with APU’s Vision and Mission, in collaboration with University administration, faculty, and staff. Barton most recently served as Senior Advisor to the President and Chief of Staff, with previous experience in university and human services organizations in the U.S. and England.

  • Daren Bachman, MA

    Director of Events, Office of the President

    Bachman brings extensive programming and event experience in university, church, and nonprofit ministry settings to his role supporting the Office of the President, Board of Trustees, and other university initiatives. He thrives on creating opportunities for people to connect, learn, and celebrate life to the fullest.

  • Teri Griffith, MEd

    Executive Assistant, Office of the President

    Griffith manages the daily operations of the Office of the President and coordinates the campus engagement of President Ferguson and Dr. Prosser. She also provides organizational support to the President’s Cabinet and Board of Trustees. Griffith has 15 years of experience working in higher education.

  • Joshua Canada, MA

    Presidential Fellow, Office of the President

    Canada is the 2020-21 Presidential Fellow from the Azusa Pacific University Doctoral Higher Education Program. In this Fellowship, he works with President Ferguson and the President’s Cabinet on strategic initiatives and research to support institutional decision-making. Canada also serves as the Director of Strategic Partnerships in APU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
