Dr. Jacquelyn E. Winston  rounds off the Graduate School of Theology’s 2013-2014 Faith Matters Lecture Series on Thursday, April 3, 2014.

“Whose Kingdom is it Anyway?” The Christian church has a checkered history in its understanding of the kingdom of God. From Jesus’ proclamations in the gospels that the “kingdom of heaven (or God) was at hand” to the institutionalization of the church in the fourth century, the church understood its faith as a crucial element in making room for the rule and reign of God in a broken world.  This Faith Matters session will examine scripture, church history, and modern examples that demonstrate ways the church’s pursuit of earthly power.  Is the church’s use of worldly methods undermining its call to be a sacrificial community called to reveal Christ in a broken world?
