Global Engagement: Sarah Gomes ’26 Finds Strength in Service

This summer, Sarah Gomes ’26 went on a Global Engagement trip to Ensenada, Mexico. The team of only 10 students was tasked with building a church from the ground up, and by the end of the week, they had successfully created a place for people to worship for many years to come.

Finding Hope in the Ashes

When disaster strikes, a multitude of emotions—disbelief, sadness, despair—and an overwhelming need for community support emerge from the chaos. In the aftermath of January’s Los Angeles fires, mere miles from Azusa Pacific University’s main campus, students were quick to step into the roles God called them to and serve communities in ways that touched the lives of fire victims.

Alumni Feature: Robert Alt ’98 Climbs Mount Everest

Robert Alt ’98 just reached the summit of the tallest mountain in the world in May. Accomplished in various areas of the legal field, Robert’s passion for mountain climbing stems from his father passing before he could make the summit himself. After 10 years of preparation and in spite of intense isolation, unexpected weather conditions, and an outbreak of upper respiratory infection, Robert’s journey to spread his father’s ashes at the top of the world was a success.

Meghan Matas ’25 Interns at the University of California San Diego Burn Unit

This summer, Meghan Matas ’25 is interning at UCSD’s burn unit. As a graduate from the MS in Child Life program, she is progressing towards her 600 certification hours working with kids of all ages.

Even after spending a year prayerfully preparing her heart for the trip, Summer could never have expected the way her initial hope to be a light in the darkness for others would transform into a respect and passion for prayer that she could bring back to her own community.
