WASC is Coming
The WASC accreditation review process consists of three stages: the Institutional Proposal, the Capacity and Preparatory Review (CPR), and the Educational Effectiveness Review (EER). The WASC accreditation process does not review all aspects of institutional functions in a compliance mode. Instead, it reviews and validates effective ongoing internal systems of quality review and improvement.
APU recently began the reaccreditation process. Here is our accreditation timeline:

October 15, 2009Institutional Proposal (IP) submittedPresented our goals, what we wanted to know about our institution, how we will go about knowing it, and how we will take ownership of this process.

Post-IPInstitutional Proposal approved

March 9–11, 2011Capacity and Preparatory Review (CPR)Gave WASC officials an opportunity to examine APU’s infrastructure, including university policies, goals, procedures, and resources, all of which impact the university’s ability to carry out academic excellence and achieve its objectives.

Post-CPRWASC ReportIncludes numerous commendations for APU in the areas of adherence to institutional mission and vision, faith integration, diversity, and internationalization.

October 10–12, 2012Educational Effectiveness Review (EER)Will evaluate the effectiveness of student learning as it relates to academic achievement and institutional learning, which involves visible plans for improving performance throughout the university.

Post-EERWASC ReportThe WASC Commission will incorporate the findings of the CPR and EER, note any progress made since the CPR report, and issue an overall judgment regarding APU’s accreditation.

5-8 years after EERNew Review Process BeginsAPU will devise and submit a new Institutional Proposal.
