Services
The Student Health Center provides many services for the undergraduate APU community, including the following:
- Biopsy or removal of certain skin abnormalities
- Blood tests, titers, and cultures
- Counseling for those with eating disorders
- Diagnosis and treatment for mental health issues
- Immunizations for travel, admission, and illness
- Medications: the SHC stocks more than 40 different medications for your convenience. Find out more about the Student Health Center Pharmacy (PDF).
- Pap smears
- Physical exams: General, Nursing, Athletic Training, and Walkabout
- Pre-marital consultation
- Prescriptions
- Selected referrals to specialists
- Sexually transmitted disease screening and treatment

Find out your cholesterol levels at the Student Health Center in just 5 minutes with only a finger-stick. All you need to do is make an appointment with our nurse and then fast for at least 8 hours beforehand. It is free if you have any risk factors, or $40 if you don't. Fees
The following preventive services are provided for a fee that will be covered completely by student health insurance (United Healthcare), once their parents' insurance is billed (if they have one). When you are ready to submit it to your student insurance plan, talk to Joyce "Tickie" Moline at the insurance desk in the SHC.
Cervical cancer screening such as PAP smears: $20 (office visit), $60 (pathology)
Screening for depression: $40
Obesity screening and counseling: $40
Cholesterol screening (find out in 5 minutes with only a finger prick) for those with risk factors for heart disease (listed below) or if you are a male 35+ years of age or a female 55+ years of age: $40
Risk factors: Those with a relative with heart disease prior to age 55; those who have high blood pressure, diabetes, or who smoke; those with HDL cholesterol under 40 or triglycerides over 200; those who have hyperglycemia, chronic kidney disease, obesity (BMI > 30), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, or a sedentary lifestyle
Office Visits: No charge
Physical Exams:
Group physicals on preselected days for athletes, nursing students, study abroad students, etc.: No charge
(Physicals for these groups not scheduled on preselected days are $15 per person.)
Casting: $40–$80 (depending on supplies used)
Indirect Laryngoscopy (looking at the vocal cords): $20
Wart freezing: $20/wart/visit

Biopsy and suturing: $50–$150 (depending on size and location; pathology fees not necessarily included)
Lab tests: minimal charge; varies by specific tests
No-shows and late cancellations (less than one hour before the scheduled appointment time) will be assessed a $10 fee.
Immunizations: (those in bold are covered by United Healthcare completely after submitting to parental insurance)
- Hepatitis A: $60 each (series of two shots)
- Hepatitis B: $60 each (series of three shots)
- Hepatitis A and B (Twinrix): $70 each (series of three shots)
- HPV: $150 (series of 3 shots; covered for women only)
- Influenza (flu vaccine): $25
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella): $70 each (two lifetime)
- Meningitis: $115
- Polio: $40
- Td (tetanus and diphtheria): $35
- Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis): $50
- TST (TB skin test): $10
- Oral typhoid pills: $60
- Yellow fever: $105

Payment Policy
Fees for any services may be paid by either placing them on the student’s account, or paying by cash, check (payable to APU), credit or debt. If payment has not been received after one week, the fee will automatically be placed on the student’s account.
