Associate Professor, Department of Teacher Education

Cynthia Dollins is an Associate Professor at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. She teaches writing and reading methods courses to Graduate students in the Department of Teacher Education. She also continues to work in PK-12 classrooms, helping teachers improve their literacy instruction. Cynthia has previously been a school principal and a classroom teacher. She has published numerous articles for state and international journals. Her current book (in press), entitled, Mentoring Adolescent Writers: Texts as Teachers, highlights an innovative strategy to help secondary students strategically connect close reading with close writing. Her first book, The ABCs of Literacy (Dollins, 2008), provides early childhood educators (preschool - third grade) ideas for how to use quality literature to teach key pre-literacy skills in order to prepare children for lifelong learning.
