Biography

Karen Soikkeli has 31 years of professional nursing experience. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Azusa Pacific University. She has worked in a variety of settings including acute care, home health, catastrophic insurance case management, worker’s compensation, acute hospital utilization review and discharge planning and in the primary care practitioner role. She is both a leader and a team player with decades of experience working with peers, managers, physicians, and inter-disciplinary team members with the ultimate goal of providing the best possible care to patients.

She completed her MSN/FNP at Azusa Pacific University in 2015 and received the Jane Cardea Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Her research on Cardiovascular Disease: The Hidden Risk in Persons with Rheumatoid Arthritis abstract was selected by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) in 2015.
She has a passion to make a difference in the future generation of nurses and has chosen to teach at APU, her alma mater, which inspired her. She desires to inspire the future generation of nurses to care for patients in a holistic manner which includes addressing the social and spiritual needs. Thus providing patients with a glimmer of hope in the midst of their challenges.

Karen is married to her husband Richard who is also an APU alumn. They have been married for 30 years. She has two children: Benjamin is 26, who resides with his wife Stephanie in Iowa. Melody, born premature at 23 weeks, who graduated to heaven at 7 months of age.
