Marissa Brash, DrPH, EdD, MPH, CPH

Marissa Brash holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of San Francisco, a Master of Public Health degree in Biostatistics from Loma Linda University, a Doctor of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from Loma Linda University, and a Doctor of Education degree in Mind, Brain, and Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. She is also certified in public health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.

Brash has a passion for teaching while also working on curriculum design, accreditation standards, program implementation, evaluation, and assessment. She is interested in integrating curriculum through interprofessional education efforts between the public health, nursing, health administration, business, mathematics, and social and behavioral health sectors of higher learning health care. Brash is certified as a diversity ambassador and helped create a program specific to healthcare professionals. Since 2020, she has served as a CIRT section chief acting as the deputy liaison Officer in the Emergency Operations Center created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also served on the CIRT COVID-19 task force, the Clinical/Internship/Student Placement Work Group, and the Academic Continuity/Core Operations Team specific to COVID-19 policy and compliance for the university. Within the School of Nursing at Azusa Pacific University, Brash currently serves on committees for the Biobehavioral and Precision Health Center, and the curriculum committee, and chairs the MPH curriculum sub-committee.

Within APU, Brash serves on committees for the biosafety committee and the lab safety committee. Her research interests include epigenetic-based autoimmune public health prevention efforts through lifestyle interventions, diversity and equity, health education, policy, and communication as well as neuroeducation topics related to academic stress and anxiety in STEM subjects. Additionally, she sits on the Medical Science Advisory Board for Global Genes, a non-profit serving the rare disease community. From 2019-2022 she served as the social chair for the Public Health Education and Health Promotion section of the American Public Health Association. Brash also co-chairs the membership committee and the Learning and Professional Development Committee for the Public Health Education and Health Promotion section of the American Public Health Association. In 2021, she was the recipient of the APHA Community Health Planning and Policy Development (CHPPD) section COVID-19 spotlight award.
