Pin Fei Tang, DMA, cellist, earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University, a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and an Artist Diploma from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Her principal teachers include Marek Szpakiewicz, Evelyn Elsing, members of the Guarneri String Quartet, Stephen Kates, and Laurien Laufman.
Tang currently serves on the faculty at Azusa Pacific University and La Sierra University, where she teaches cello and chamber music. An active performer, she regularly appears in chamber music and solo recitals throughout the United States and abroad.
In addition to her performing and teaching career, Tang is frequently invited to adjudicate competitions and teach at international music festivals. Her recent engagements include the 6th Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China, 2025; the American String Teachers Association Competition; the 6th China National Cello Competition; the CMTANC International Youth Music Competition; the 1st Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong; the Hong Kong International Music Festival; the Steinway Midsummer Music Festival; the International String Music Summer Festival in Vancouver; and the Montecito International Music Festival.
Many of Tang’s former students have gone on to perform with professional orchestras and serve on the faculties of music conservatories. Her students have also received top honors in prestigious competitions, including the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, the Schoenfeld International String Competition, and the Enkor International Music Competition.
Tang received the Excellent Teacher Award from the American Protégé International Music Competition at Carnegie Hall, as well as the Distinguished Teacher Award at the 1st Schoenfeld International String Competition.
