One of the most distinguished Chinese-American violinists, Suli Xue, enjoys an active career on today’s international music stage. He is a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, president of the Schoenfeld International Music Society, president and artistic director of the Schoenfeld International String Competition, artistic director of the Hong Kong International Music Festival, artist-in-residence at Azusa Pacific University, former professor of violin at the USC Thornton School of Music, and former concertmaster of the China National Symphony Orchestra. He is also the winner of two Gold Medals from the Global Music Awards. Xue has earned high acclaim around the world for his distinctive artistry.
Xue graduated from the USC Thornton School of Music and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He was a protégé of the world-renowned violin professor Alice Schoenfeld. He received an Artist Certificate in Conducting from Azusa Pacific University, where he studied with professor Christopher Russell. Xue is frequently invited as a guest artist and faculty member to teach and perform at international music festivals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has also served as a juror for numerous international music competitions, and many of his students have won first prizes in international competitions.
Xue performed as a soloist with the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra for their New Year’s Concert Tour in China, and the Pacific Symphony for its Chinese New Year Concerts. Suli Xue’s violin albums Melodies of China and Golden Melodies, featuring renowned Chinese and Western classical works, have received multiple awards and international acclaim in China and abroad. In 2026, Xue was honored with the 15th Global Chinese Achievers Award, becoming the first recipient of the Artistic Achievement Award in the field of instrumental music among global Chinese artists.
Recently, he has appeared as a soloist in numerous important performances with the China National Symphony Orchestra, the Harbin Summer Music Festival, and other major organizations. In 2014, Xue introduced the Schoenfeld International String Competition to Harbin. In 2017, the competition joined UNESCO’s “World Federation of International Music Competitions”, fortifying and promoting international cultural exchange through music. In August 2017, Xue collaborated with maestro Zubin Mehta as both soloist and concertmaster in a gala symphony concert at the Harbin China-Russia Cultural and Arts Festival. Maestro Mehta described Xue as “a brilliant violinist and outstanding leader who performs with virtuosic musicality.”
