APU Support: Writing, Speaking, and Course Tutoring

At APU’s Writing, Speaking, and Tutoring Center, we empower our peer leaders and students to become confident, effective, and independent learners through the use of research-based learning strategies. We offer free, one-on-one or group assistance in writing, speaking, and tutoring for specific courses.

Writing

Support is available to students (undergraduate through doctrol) across APU’s campuses, including regional locations, for any writing project, at any stage of the process.

Speaking

Polish your public speaking, presentation writing, and delivery.

Tutoring

Course-specific, one-on-one peer tutoring support for a variety of subjects. Specific subject areas may change each semester based on student demand and the availability of qualified peer tutors; review the list of courses available for tutoring services. Complete the Tutoring Course Request Form if you need tutoring support for a course not offered.

Each semester, specific courses are preapproved for drop-in tutoring at weekly meeting times for group sessions with a designated tutor. View the drop-in tutoring courses schedule.

Drop-Ins

Drop-ins are open-house-style sessions where students can come and go as needed without making an appointment. Browse the subject areas below select the time that works best for you.

Scheduling Instructions

One on One

  1. Open apu.mywconline.com and log in with your APU credentials. If you are a first time user, please register an account with WCOnline by clicking “Register for an account” and filling out all required info.
  2. Upon logging in, please select which schedule you would like to access from the welcome page (Writing Center, Tutoring Center, or Drop-Ins).
  3. Use the Section drop-down menus to filter for a coach, course, or meeting type (in-person/online).
  4. Select Your Appointment — choose a time slot from the available white blocks that works best for you.
  5. Enter all required details, specify the subject, attach any relevant documents (optional), and click “Create Appointment.”

>The center operates on the motto: any project, any student, at any stage. This means that no matter what kind of assignment you need help with from any course, coaches are willing to help you with whatever you need at any point from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students are allowed to schedule four appointments per week (this applies to 1-on-1 appointment tutoring only, not drop-in tutoring).

Drop-ins are in-person times during which you can meet with a coach or a tutor without making an appointment in advance. View our weekly schedule.

Yes, but we ask that you come in on a different day than your scheduled appointments.
We discourage you from booking appointments back-to-back. Limit yourself to one hour-long appointment or two half-hour appointments per day. Students are allowed four appointments per week.

Request a group appointment by using our service request form.

When you schedule your session, include a note for your coach or tutor about what you want to work on. Come prepared with your books, notes, and any other study materials you need.

If you know that you can’t make your appointment, notify the Writing, Speaking, and Tutoring Center as soon as possible.

  • If it is more than 1 hour before your appointment, you can cancel through WCOnline. You can also contact us at (626) 815-6120 and [email protected] from Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • If it is less than 1 hour before your appointment during work hours, call or email us.
Yes, coaching and tutoring is 100% free to all APU students.
Appointments are available in person on APU’s East Campus (Marshburn Library, Room 134) and West Campus (Segerstrom Science Center, Room 170), and online.
No. Meeting with or contacting your coach or tutor outside of your appointment times is prohibited and may result in restricted access to future scheduling. If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, contact the Writing, Speaking, and Tutoring Center staff.
You can book an appointment up until one hour before it starts.
Yes! All regional location students are eligible for remote appointments. Just select “online” under the “Show all Meeting Types” drop-down menu when booking your appointment.
