APU Alumnus Stars in Broadway’s Hamilton
Our graduates pave the way in the world of acting, performing, conducting, and more—especially Darnell Abraham ’09, known for his role as George Washington in Broadway’s Hamilton.
In Act One of Hamilton, Darnell sings as Washington about personal and collective legacy in “History Has Its Eyes On You.” The lyrics hold layers of meaning for the APU alumnus. He is connected to those who came before him and those who will follow.
Raphaela Lacerda ’23 Makes Her Mark in Conducting
Lacerda was remarkably young to be conducting a professional orchestra. In fact, this debut conducting performance happened six months before she graduated with a master’s in conducting from Azusa Pacific University.

Through a recent gift from legendary recording artist, author, and actor Pat Boone, we’re developing a brand-new state-of-the-art scoring stage and recording studio with tracking for a full film orchestra and 100-voice choir, plus production suites.
Erick Quintanilla ’11, MM ’13, Directs a Top High School Band Program
It was in high school that Quintanilla realized he wanted to become a music teacher. From his time in band, he knew he was called to pursue music for the rest of his life.
