Karen Sorensen-Lang is an assistant professor directing the General Education Writing Program. She is an active member of the APU community and invests time coaching students in the first-year writing classroom and writing labs. As an APU alumna, Sorensen-Lang is concerned about ongoing community relationships and makes use of service learning in her classes, providing opportunities for her students to work in local schools and nonprofit organizations. She is a Cornerstone Award recipient for excellence in Service-Learning at APU. Her publications focus on scholar-advocacy work regarding women in leadership and addressing violence against women. Her areas of interest include writing theory and TESOL pedagogy, academic integrity, and women writers. She has taught in Israel and Lithuania and conducts camp programming for girls and teens around the power of writing and storytelling.
