Ashley Ng Conner, MM

Adjunct Professor
Ashley Ng is a Los Angeles-based Chinese-American cellist and Bay Area native whose work spans both performance and education. She freelances throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties, performing for live events, band shows, and recording sessions. Though classically trained, her recording work includes chamber, orchestral, and operatic projects, as well as musical theater, indie singer-songwriter tracks, video game and film scores, and spoken word.
Her recent credits include the Super Bowl LIII teaser featuring Magic Johnson, a video fashion show for Boot Barn, performances with Jacob Collier during his MIT residency, and appearances on The Golden Bachelorette and The Bachelor (season 29). She has also performed with Pacific Opera Project and can be heard on recordings by Americana/folk artist Kris Angelis.
Ng has performed widely in the Bay Area and Greater Los Angeles and made her international debut in Hong Kong in 2015 alongside acclaimed pianist Stephen Wong. She is the cellist of The Apex Duo—a percussion-cello collaboration with her husband, Caleb, who she met during her undergraduate years at Azusa Pacific University. Her early musical formation began at age four under the guidance of her mother, a music educator, and she later developed a passion for piano and choral music. A current member of The Sterling Ensemble, Ng also sang with the Crystal Children’s Choir and has performed at ACDA National and Regional conferences.
She has taken masterclasses with artists such as Desmond Hoebig, Ralph Kirshbaum, and Daniel Rothmüller, and has participated in the Heifetz International Music Institute, Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar, and Montecito International Music Festival.
Ng received her Master of Music and Professional Studies Certificate from the Boston Conservatory (now Boston Conservatory at Berklee), studying with Rhonda Rider. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance at Azusa Pacific University under Marek Szpakiewicz. She currently serves as adjunct faculty at APU, teaching piano, practical musicianship, music history, and writing. She is also involved with Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), a music education initiative of the LA Philharmonic.
