Biography

Holly Holloway-Friesen, PhD, proudly serves as an associate professor of psychology. Prior to this role, she was an assistant professor of psychology and director of the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree completion program at Azusa Pacific University’s Inland Empire and High Desert regional campuses. She also taught in Azusa Pacific’s Master of Science in College Counseling and Student Development program for 8 years, and has been at APU for a total of 19 years. Holloway-Friesen was a senior research associate at the Institute at Indian Hill during her time at Claremont Graduate University, where she worked on a $5 million National Science Foundation grant. In addition to her work at APU, she has taught in Argosy University’s doctorate and master’s in counseling psychology programs, and in the Doctorate of Education program at Concordia University (Portland, Oregon). She also is an editor of the Journal of the First-Year Experience & Students in Transition and has published her research in several peer-reviewed journals (Journal of Student Affairs and Research, College Student Affairs Journal, Journal of Career Development, and Journal of Hispanic Higher Education, among others). Holloway-Friesen has presented at several conferences, including those hosted by the American Educational Research Association, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the Hawaii International Conference on Education, the Consortium of Liberal Arts Schools and Independent Colleges, and the National Association for Community Colleges. Her research passions focus on college students’ sense of belonging, cultural identities, religious support, and career development.
