Biography

Jill Thayer, PhD is an adjunct professor of art history in the Master of Arts in Modern and Contemporary Art History at APU. Her focus includes theory and practice, writing art criticism, and methodologies of art history. She received a PhD in Cultural Studies/Museum Studies from Claremont Graduate University (CGU) with emphases in Contemporary Art History, Exhibition Theory, Design Theory, and Visual Culture. Her doctoral dissertation, “Artist Emergence in Contemporary Culture: A Dialectic in Social and Material Conditions of Southern California Artists” received the CGU School of Arts and Humanities Dissertation Award presented by the Cultural Studies faculty. This led to a post-doctoral fellowship to produce, “In Their Own Words: Oral Histories of CGU Art,” a series of Claremont Graduate University Art alumni, professors, and professors emeritus.
