Lori Silao has a background in neonatal nursing and has been a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner since 1994. Having earned a PhD in education with a focus on nursing, she is committed to advancing nursing education. Her goal is to improve how nurses teach and to foster student learning. Lori's doctoral work focused on improving the mentoring process for new educators, and linking clinical adjunct faculty strongly to the parent academic center.

Silao has taught at Azusa Pacific University since 2007 as an adjunct faculty member and became a full-time assistant professor in 2015. She is currently a professor and the associate dean for the graduate division in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

She previously served as chair of the RN to BSN program, the bridge-to-BSN program, and the integrative enrollment pathway. She has taught multiple courses across the undergraduate division, including pathophysiology, pharmacology, quality improvement, and nursing theory.
