Become a Critical Thinker Prepared to Impact the World
APU’s School of Humanities and Sciences prepares disciple-scholars for advanced study, civic engagement, vocational success, and a well-lived life. Taught by faculty-mentors genuinely invested in their students’ journey, this is a place where students explore and live out truth in a vibrant, collaborative learning community.
We offer academic programs of excellence that span the humanities and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) disciplines, including a wide array of major and minor undergraduate degree programs, courses in the university’s general education program, discipline-specific student honor societies, and graduate degree programs.
Faculty Spotlight
Here at APU, we can tackle science with a very holistic view, and we integrate our faith whenever possible. In my chemistry classroom, I will ask the question: Just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should—what about sustainability? What about stewardship? What about our Christian values?
Vice Provost for Academic Services and Associate Professor, Director, Center for Research in Science, Director, Environmental Studies Program; Faculty Fellow, Honors College

About the Dean
Bill McCoy, PhD, comes to APU with 20 years of prior experience working in Christian higher education, primarily at Eastern Nazarene College, where he served four years as chief academic officer. Prior to that role, he was a faculty member teaching a range of courses in African and European history. He holds a PhD in African history, with additional specialties in modern British history and anthropology, from Boston University. His dissertation, Healing the Leper? Mission Christianity, Medicine, and Social Dependence in 20th Century Swaziland, led to multiple publications in industry journals.
McCoy is passionate about the transformative power of higher education integrated with deep Christian faith. His primary goal for the College of Arts, Humanities, Sciences, and Theology is to cultivate a community of scholars who embody that transformative integration and celebrate its fruit in each other’s lives and in the world around us.
