Audiences will enjoy the fading grandeur of Imperial Russia to the glittering lights of 1920s Paris in this musical adaptation, based on the 20th Century Fox Animation of 1997 film of the same name, that premiered on Broadway in 2017. Stephen Flaherty (music), Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) and Terrence McNally (book) created a script for the musical Anastasia, inspired by the life of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. The show features the popular song Journey to the Past

The production is directed and choreographed by Christina Harding, who choreographed APU’s blockbuster musical The Music Man in 2025. Harding is the lyricist of the new musical Jo: The Little Women, which was recently recorded at Abbey Road with Christina Ebersole and an all star cast. The show features a cast of 33 students with dynamic projections by Nick Santiago, set design by Cameron Harris, light design by Gavan Wyrick, and costume design by Carina Holley.

“I believe our audience can expect to be dazzled by a breathtaking visual experience and the versatility of our ensemble cast,” Harding said.

APU’s plays and musicals are produced through a program of rigorous training. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession. The department is nationally recognized for its BFA in Acting for The Stage and Screen program.
