One of Shakespeare’s most cherished romantic comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a shimmering tale of love, trickery, and the transformative power of imagination. Enter a world where dreams and reality collide, love tangles and untangles, and magic reigns beneath the moonlit skies of Athens. As Theseus, Duke of Athens, prepares to wed Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, mischief and enchantment spiral out of control. Lovers flee into the forest, fairies meddle with mortal hearts, and a hapless troupe of actors stumbles into a night of hilarious confusion and unexpected transformation. The production is directed by faculty Kirsten Lundin Humer, MFA, associate professor and program director of APU’s BFA in Acting for the Stage and Screen, who offers a bold contemporary vision for the classic play.

“Set in a wealthy coastal enclave, this Midsummer unfolds among America’s most powerful elites, where love, ambition, and obedience collide,” Humer said. “When lovers and artisans escape into a dreamlike forest, art itself becomes a force of disruption and transformation. What emerges is not explanation, but awakening—change that arrives before understanding.”

The Department of Theater Arts’ 2025–26 season continues with the heartwarming comedy-drama Steel Magnolias in March and concludes with Jason Robert Brown’s Songs for a New World in April. The department is nationally recognized for its BFA in Acting for the Stage and Screen and is dedicated to producing exceptional theatrical experiences through rigorous training and innovative programming. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession.
