Student worshipping in chapel

Chapel and Pastoral Care

The Office of Chapel and Pastoral Care facilitates spaces for spiritual formation and life transformation in the undergraduate community through large chapel gatherings and smaller, intimate pastoral care and counseling settings.

Chapel

The office stewards APU’s foundational commitment to incorporate consistent rhythms of community worship in the spiritual development of undergraduate students through the advancement of a Biblically grounded, diverse, pastoral, and challenging chapel curriculum that cultivates personal spiritual transformation and invites students to participate in God’s work in the world. Pastoral Care

Our Christ-centered community offers many opportunities for spiritual conversations about life and faith with faculty, staff, and students. In particular, the members of our Pastoral Care team are available by appointment for confidential one-on-one counseling. We would love to listen and counsel you through distress, indecision, or theological inquiry, or just get to know you. For questions or more information, contact us at [email protected] or (626) 815-3855. If you would like to schedule an appointment, complete the Pastoral Counseling Appointment Request Form.

Students with Disabilities

Students who have a disability that prevents them from full participation in in-person chapel should meet with an advisor in Accessibility and Disability Services (ADR) as soon as possible to initiate disability verification and discuss the nature and scope of chapel accommodations. Reasonable accommodations for students with verifiable disabilities will be assessed and determined on an individual basis by ADR, which will inform Chapel Services about approved accommodations. Contact ADR at (626) 815-2067 or [email protected].

SALT Teams

SALT teams provide student leadership for the Office of Chapel and Pastoral Care, specifically with our chapel team. SALT teams are an integral part of spiritual life on campus and often minister in significant ways behind the scenes. SALT is composed of two teams, each with a different focus:

  • The Kaleo Team contributes to the worship experience of Kaleo chapel through creativity, artistic expression, and logistical support.
  • The Spiritual Formation Team creates opportunities for spiritual growth and practice of the spiritual disciplines outside of chapel, through creative, spiritually focused programming and through maintenance of the Hartwig Prayer Chapel.
