Meet the Staff
Karen Rouggly, M.A.
Director for Mobilization
Karen serves as the director in charge of developing transformational service opportunities for all students serving locally, nationally, and internationally. Prior to working for the Center for Student Action, Karen was a U.S.-based missionary recruiting for a South African organization, and also worked in public and nonprofit education. She is pursuing a D.Min. from Portland Seminary, a division of George Fox University, and earned an M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, but it was her time as an undergraduate at APU that helped her develop a passion for community development, transformational service, and helping students understand cross-cultural ministry. She and her husband, Seth, alongside their two sons, Eli and Boaz, are proud residents of the Azusa community.

Short-Term Mobilization, Program Coordinator
Julie was born and raised in Iowa before moving to Southern California for her undergraduate career. She began her time in the Center for Student Action as the graduate assistant for action teams, then became the graduate assistant for the Azusa Scholars. She was also the operations coordinator before becoming the Action Team program coordinator. She has a B.A. in Communication Studies from Biola University and an M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development from Azusa Pacific. Julie is passionate about student learning within the service context and loves sharing her passion for service with the students at APU.
Mexico Outreach, Program Coordinator
Eddy’s journey with Mexico Outreach began in 1979, when he helped lead a church team to Pastor Juan’s church just outside of Mexicali. Eddy’s worldview was rocked, as were those of his teammates. This deep impact led Eddy to return as a volunteer, student worker, and full-time staff member, and he is now the director. Eddy learned the value of relationships, and he still works with Pastor Juan and other church leaders he met back when he first began his journey in Mexico.
Local Engagement, Program Coordinator
Austin is a liaison between APU students and local service opportunities from Azusa to Los Angeles, including ongoing partnerships, one-time events, and urban immersion trips. He has an M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development and bachelor’s degrees in biblical studies and sociology, all from APU. Austin is passionate about making education more than just a classroom experience, and showing students how crucial service and investment in a community are to the Gospel.
