As APU focuses on remote learning for spring, many employees will continue working remotely, while others will be on campus. We embrace a spirit of flexibility to be nimble and adapt as the university continues to adhere to guidance for higher education institutions from state and county public health and governmental agencies.
Employees Returning to Campus
APU plans for a phased return to campus and will provide notice to employees before they are expected to return. Even if a date is identified as a permissible return date by county guidance, it does not mean all APU employees will return to campus on that date. The return to campus for employees will begin with offices and activities that are essential to preparing the community for return to campus. Where possible, we will encourage employees to continue working remotely. Your supervisor will work with you regarding a timeframe for your return to campus in light of forthcoming state and county guidance.
Health and Safety Training
All employees are required to participate in a forthcoming, mandatory health and safety training program before returning to work at university locations. Employees must certify that they have completed the training and will comply with the directives related to protecting themselves and the community from COVID-19.
Employee Health Screening Process
Upon returning to work on campus, employees are required to adhere to the following procedures:
Employees are required to take their temperature each day before they report to campus for work. Employees with a temperature above 100.0 should stay home and notify their supervisor.
Employees are required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before coming to work on any day that they are reporting to campus. Symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, and diarrhea. Employees exhibiting any symptoms should stay home and notify their supervisor.
Employees are required to complete a brief checklist and self-certification through Total Access on the days they work on campus. This self-certification prompts the employee on the temperature-taking and symptom self-monitoring described above, and asks them to certify that they have performed those actions and are symptom-free, and thus cleared to come to work.
APU will not require all employees to be tested for COVID-19, though appointments for testing will be available through the APU COVID-19 Testing Center to employees who are exhibiting symptoms. Employees who experience symptoms and/or have tested positive will have protocols to follow before they may return to work.
Workplace Health and Safety Protocols
All university campuses and offices have extended measures in place to maximize the health and safety of faculty, staff, students, and visitors. These measures are a shared responsibility as we work together for the benefit of our community and neighbors.
Additionally, APU campuses will bear resemblance to what you have seen in grocery stores and other business establishments, such as signage with reminders about wearing face coverings, following physical distancing, and washing hands frequently, as well as decals on the ground marking six-foot distancing in areas where we anticipate lines. Plexiglass barriers are also being placed in locations with high foot traffic.
Enhanced Cleaning and Disinfecting Protocols
- Public areas and restrooms cleaned daily by Facilities Management.
- Cleaning products provided by Facilities Management in spaces open to the public. All employees share the responsibility in cleaning high-touch surfaces throughout the day.
- Hand sanitizer available at all building entrances open to the public. (Some entrances may be closed.)
- Signage posted on building entrances requesting people not enter if they feel sick and encouraging everyone to maintain good hygiene and wear a face covering.
- All employees are required to wear a cloth face covering while on university premises whenever in contact or likely to come into contact with others (unless a health condition prevents them from doing so). Students, guests, and visitors are required to wear face coverings in public spaces as well.
- The university will supply employees with a reusable, washable face covering. The employee is responsible for cleaning the face covering, bringing it to campus each day, and wearing it (covering both nose and mouth) whenever in contact or likely to come into contact with others.
- Use of a face covering is not necessary when employees are in their office by themselves, assuming it is not a communal space and no more than one person occupies the office.
COVID-19 Workspace Signage
Office managers can order signs to post in your workspace that inform others of COVID-19 expectations and policies, including physical distancing, hand sanitizing stations, face coverings required, directional arrows, etc.
The Signage Request Form includes templates to download, customize, and print. All orders will be processed and delivered by Azusa Print + Design. COVID-19 and/or return to campus signage is covered by the university’s budget.
