Biography

Warren Koch, Ph.D., taught both production and theory courses related to film and television. Completing a dissertation on media ethics in the mid-1990s set Koch on a scholarly course where he conducts research on the ethics of storytelling and the use of media by marginalized groups. Often these studies take Koch and his students overseas. In the past Koch has led student service teams to Tanzania, Cambodia and Czech Republic. Recently, Koch traveled to Myanmar/Burma to teach a screenwriting seminar to Burmese Christians who are forming a media company there.

Dr. Koch is finishing his three-year-term as chair of the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts. This peer-reviewed international festival for students and faculty receives over 1,200 entries annually and awards more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. Next year when there will no longer be a conflict of interest, Koch plans to compete in the festival with his documentary, Crosswise, a story following the lives of Native American “Jesus Followers” who would rather not be identified as “Christians.”
