Azusa Pacific University’s Department of Theater Arts presents Babette’s Feast, an adaptation of the beloved film. The show runs from November 6-15 with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday matinee shows on November 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. The production takes place in the Warehouse Theater, located on APU’s West Campus, at 701 E. Foothill Blvd. in Azusa. Free parking is available. General admission tickets cost $23, with discounted tickets for senior citizens, children, students, and alumni. For tickets, call the Felix Event Center Box Office at (626) 815-5494 or order them online. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.

When Babette arrives in a tight-knit, austere village, her extravagant gift—a lavish, once-in-a-lifetime dinner—stuns the cautious community. As the table overflows with exquisite dishes, the guests find themselves swept into a miraculous experience of radical grace, unexpected forgiveness, and deep human connection.

The production is directed by Margaret Starbuck. A  freelance theatre director, dramaturg, and arts administrator, Starbuck serves as the literary manager at Boston Court in Pasadena.

“It has been a joy to discover and explore Babette’s Feast with this wonderful ensemble of students,” Starbuck said.  “The play is based on Danish author Karen Blixen’s short story of the same name from 1958, which was also adapted into an Academy Award-winning Danish film in 1987. Because it is an adaptation, you will notice that the play has the quality of a story being read aloud.”

APU’s plays and musicals are produced through a program of rigorous training. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession. The department is nationally recognized for its BFA in Acting for The Stage and Screen program.
