Alumni Spotlight: Jamie Dee Hart ‘17, MA ‘19, Music Business and Music Entrepreneurial Studies

Describe your career path so far.

My first music industry internship eventually turned into a job at Adarga Entertainment Group where I worked alongside Henry Alonzo to build their publishing administration department. My work at Adarga allowed me to work several notable award shows such as the Dove Awards, GRAMMYs, and Latin GRAMMYs in addition to co-producing a Latin GRAMMY nominated live recorded album at Madison Square Garden. Through the internship, I obtained with the connections made from APU alumni my career started in an amazing way!

Describe a time where you felt you had found your professional calling.

In the fall of 2015, I spent a semester in Nashville as a student at an amazing music industry program at The Contemporary Music Center in Brentwood, TN. During this program, we heard from several guest speakers in the music industry and that opened my eyes to how many roles are needed in an artist's career and/or roles at a record label, publishing company, or artist management firm. The options were endless and I finally felt, as a junior in college, that there was hope for me to find a career in the music industry. During my time in Nashville, I made several connections and even worked as a last minute assistant/publicist on the red carpet at the Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards!

What was the most meaningful experience you had at APU?

The most meaningful experience to me is a cumulation of experiences actually. Something that really impacted me in a positive way was the support from all of my professors when I had to make arrangements to miss class or push assignments because of exciting career events and opportunities that I was able to be a part of.

How has your Christian-based college education impacted your career?

Ultimately, it taught me to value every relationship I make in life because treating everyone kindly and with respect is the best way to thrive in the music industry.

If you could give a word of advice to future and current students, what would it be?

Embrace the present. Don't spend all of your valuable time in college worrying about your future, but rather make connections and friendships that will last throughout your life!
