About the Program
Why This Major Is Relevant
The advent of the Internet has changed the nature of political debate. It is now possible to sway public opinion, in fact to run whole political campaigns, without the use of television and newspapers. President Obama’s unprecedented, Internet-driven presidential campaign underscores that politics is entering a new era. This is an environment of immense opportunity for those who wish to influence our nation’s course over the next several decades. APU political science majors are poised to take advantage of this environment and work for change in our nation and the world.
Gain In-depth Learning Experiences
In addition to classroom, research, and seminar experiences, an APU political science major is provided with multiple opportunities to become directly involved in politics through internship experiences on the local, state, or national level. Our students participate in internships with government, research, and law through the American Studies Program in Washington, D.C., congressional offices, and other legislative, judicial, and executive offices of the federal government. Internships ensure that political science majors graduate with contacts in their chosen field, solid evidence of their skills, and substantial experience on their résumés.
