About This Major
Why This Major Is Relevant
The Enron and WorldCom scandals resulted in new laws passed by Congress that changed the way publicly traded companies are audited. This created a heavy corporate accounting workload which, combined with a shortage of accounting graduates during the 1990s, and the upcoming retirement of up to 50 percent of government accounting employees, ensures that well-trained, ethical accounting majors will continue to be in high demand. APU’s accounting degree uniquely positions graduates to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing accounting profession that create a strong demand for qualified, ethical Christian professionals.
Gain In-depth Learning Experiences
The practical element of the accounting major places students in internships with local, national, and international accounting firms during their junior and senior year. Students graduate with contacts in the field and two years of experience on their resume. This combination of real-world experience with classroom theory also provides unmatched preparation for the state CPA examination.
