Charlie was born and raised in beautiful central New Jersey. After graduating from Houghton College (lots of cows, snow, and elbow room), he spent several years in New England working in residence life. In the summer of 1994, he arrived at APU in pursuit of an MA. in Leadership Studies. After several years as a residence director, Charlie stepped into his current role as the executive director of residence life, a role that allows him to do daily what he loves most—build supportive relationships with students. He sees Residence Life’s primary mission as actively supporting students as they explore who God has made them to be and how He wants them to use their gifts and talents to contribute to APU and the community beyond. When Charlie is not trying to guide and support students, he can be found pursuing his other interests: egg salad sandwiches, rustic cabins, and hanging out with his French bulldog, Lucy.

Charlie was born and raised in Southern California, just a few miles from Azusa Pacific. He attended APU and earned a BS in Organizational Leadership and an MA in Leadership Studies. Charlie has had various roles with the campus housing program for over 20 years and has a passion for doing the behind-the-scenes work that sets the stage for other student affairs professionals to thrive in their work with students. Away from work, Charlie is passionate about discipleship and the local church and has faithfully served at his local church for more than a decade. Charlie and his wife live in Azusa and enjoy all the unique joys and challenges that come with raising four kids.

After graduating from APU in the mid-1980s, Michelle took a 20-year hiatus, which led her family to Philadelphia, Chicago, Northern California, Costa Rica, and Southern Mexico. She then returned to the Southland and has been working in student affairs at APU for the past 15 years. She and her husband, Randy (an APU alum and 40-year staff member), keep busy with their eight adult children and two (so far!) grandchildren. Michelle is incredibly grateful for God’s grace and faithfulness in her life and family. And she loves seeing God work in the lives of young people!
Laura was born in Texas but raised in Southern California. She currently resides in the foothills of Monrovia. Laura comes to Residence Life with vast experience working in both corporate and non-profit business environments and has also co-owned and co-operated a private business. Laura is excited to be part of the Residence Life team and is always eager to help APU students thrive on campus. Laura and her husband have two children currently attending college. In their free time, the Spaeth family enjoys going camping, doing life together in the local church, and hanging out with their energetic French bulldog, Ember.
Josh was born and raised in the rainy Pacific Northwest. He then moved to Southern California and earned his Bachelor of Science in International Business with a minor in Computer Science at APU. After a year of working in corporate supply chain, Josh felt called to pivot and pursue an MS in Higher Education Leadership and Student Development at California Baptist University. Josh has since worked in Residence Life with the intent to develop an inclusive environment for every unique student to feel known, valued, and supported. Josh enjoys watching or playing sports, reading at a coffee shop, playing DND, or going to a movie at the local theater in his free time.

Bree was born and raised in gorgeous Southern California. She graduated with her BA in Youth and Family Ministries in Spring of 2022 and her Master of Divinity in May 2024. Bree has loved APU and found the community of staff and students here to be life-giving. Bree continues to grow in her passions for emerging adulthood’s formative years, intercultural relations, mentorship of student leaders, and watching God work in the lives of all who call APU home. She enjoyed her work as a graduate assistant in the Office of Residence Life so deeply that she decided to continue in this office full-time and could not be more excited!  Encouraging and enthusiastic, Bree is most enthused to curate and steward spaces for community and connection while establishing meaningful relationships. Some of Bree’s pursuits outside the office include enjoying raw fish, spending time in the sun, watching Survivor or Big Brother, going on runs, playing board games with her friends, and dancing in the kitchen with her husband, Josh! Come by her office anytime and stay awhile!

Brett was born and raised in the suburbs of Antelope in Northern California. He spent 18 years there until arriving at APU where he dedicated the next 4 years learning to become a Youth Pastor. After obtaining a BA in Youth and Family Ministries with a minor in Biblical Studies he was left with a desire to continue learning about the church and the Christian faith. Now pursuing a Master of Divinity, Brett continues supporting students through fellowship, and ministry, reinforcing that they are not alone in an effort to create community and belonging on and off campus. When not working or studying or serving in the church, Brett dives into his hobbies like video games, making progress on writing a book, spending time with friends, playing bass guitar, going to the ocean, scuba diving, and reading books.
Chi was raised in the Bay Area and relocated to the Pacific Northwest before beginning his journey at Azusa Pacific University. He earned a BA in Criminal Justice and Philosophy from APU in 2022 and is currently pursuing an MA in Leadership. Chi has a desire to utilize his gifts in various capacities through servant leadership by seeking to be a support and resource for students. Outside of the work environment, Chi enjoys backpacking in the wilderness, visiting national parks, running in marathons, or reading at coffee shops. With some luck, you can find him on Cougar Walk, 1899 Dining Hall, Marshburn Library, or Duke Commons.
Jordin is from Montrose, CA, a small, cute town of the Glendale District, LA County. She graduated from Pasadena City College to pursue her AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences and transferred to California State University, Los Angeles to pursue her BA in Psychology. Now Jordin is expanding her education in pursuing her Masters in College Counseling and Student Development at APU, excited to see what God has planned for strengthening her new skills in leadership and learning new outcomes for students. What Jordin does for fun, you can find her going to the gym, spending time with friends and family, learning new recipes for home cooked meals, and dancing.
Kanani was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated with her BA in Psychology in 2024 from Azusa Pacific University and is currently pursuing a MS in Organizational Psychology. Kanani served in Residence Life as a Resident Advisor for two consecutive years in her undergrad. She felt called to continue serving this community and is now the Assistant Residence Director of Adams Hall and Trinity Hall. Kanani looks forward to cultivating an enjoyable and memorable residential experience for students through her role. In her free time, Kanani enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, exploring Southern California, and obsessively talking about Taylor Swift and her dog Lulu.
Hannah was born and raised in Reedley CA, a small farming town in southern Fresno County. She first came to APU in 2017 and graduated with her B.A. in Christian Ministries in 2022 and is currently pursuing her Masters in Divinity in the seminary program. During her time at APU, Hannah has held several leadership positions, including Resident Advisor, Action Team Leader, and Vice President of the Student Government Association, reflecting her deep passion for serving her community. Outside of school, she enjoys kickboxing, spending countless hours reading, and serving as a pastoral intern and scholar for the Evangelical Friends Denomination at her local church.

Marisa is from the suburbs of Hacienda Heights in LA County. She earned her BS in Allied Health and a Chemistry Minor at APU in 2024 and is currently pursuing an ELM in Nursing. Marisa is passionate about making a positive impact in healthcare by providing compassionate care and supporting patients' journeys to recovery. She believes that nursing is not just about patient care but also about leadership and advocacy, aiming to inspire and guide others in the healthcare field. Marisa aims to bring this passion to Residence Life as she helps to steward the the story of Residence Life through social media, graphic design, and much more. This is her first year with Residence Life, and she is excited to work alongside the team to enhance the student experience. For fun, Marisa enjoys playing volleyball, lifting weights, playing video games, spending time with friends, baking, and going to the library.
