Biography

In education for nearly 35 years, Maria Pacino, EdD, spent her first 15 years in the public school system, where she taught French and Spanish and was a library media teacher, and her last 20 years in higher education. Her doctoral degree includes a specialty in intercultural education. Pacino’s research interests include multicultural and cross-cultural education, comparative education, the role of literacy in pluralistic democracies, and the impact of technology in schooling, including instructional delivery. Pacino is also engaged in collaborative, interdisciplinary research studies and projects, including character and moral development, community involvement, and service learning. She has presented at national and international professional organizations and had several national and international publications, including a book, Reflections on Equity, Diversity and Schooling; she is also co-editor of Faith Integration and Schools of Education which includes two chapters be her. Pacino is director of the Teacher Librarian Program and the MA in ED: School Librarianship online in the Department of Advanced Studies.
