Program Details
Sequences and Deadlines for the BS in Nursing Transfer Program
The BS in Nursing Transfer program is based on a cohort model. Students progress through the curriculum in sequence with an assigned group of students.
Students complete the required 48 units of prerequisite coursework and then begin nursing specific coursework either in the fall, spring, or summer semester and continue in sequence for three consecutive semesters per year.

All requirements must be met and documents received by the deadline to be considered for admissions review.

Admission Requirements
The university and program admission requirements below must be met before an application is considered complete.
- Application for admission
- $45 nonrefundable application fee
- Official transcripts sent to APU’s Student Services Center (SSC) for all college credit,
degrees, certificates, AP scores, or credentials earned prior to application to APU
An official transcript is one that Azusa Pacific University receives unopened in an envelope sealed by the former institution and that bears the official seal of the college or university. A cumulative minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade-point average is required for regular admission status. Provisional admittance may be granted to individuals with a lower GPA if competency can be shown through multiple measures.
This program requires a minimum of 48 college or university semester units of transferable nursing prerequisite course requirements prior to the semester in which the student is requesting admission. - Two professional recommendations (from school or work)
- One-page statement of professional goals in nursing
- Résumé reflecting volunteer and paid work experience within the past three years. Please include leadership positions held within volunteer organizations, community service experience and/or employment where applicable.
- Successfully complete prerequisite requirements including General Microbiology with lab (4 units); Human Anatomy with lab (4 units); Human Physiology with lab (4 units); and General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry for the Health Sciences (4 units) with no lower than an overall B- (2.7) grade-point average, and with no lower than a C (2.0) in each course.

Additional Requirements
Once a student has received a letter of acceptance into the School of Nursing, proof of the following must be provided:
- Full physical examination clearance done within the past 12 months. This report is to be submitted the APU Student Health Center;
- Current two-step TB test, Hepatitis B, MMR titer, Varicella titer, and Tdap immunizations;
- A current background check;
- Ability to meet physical sensory technical standards required for safe and competent performance of the duties and skills needed for the nursing profession; and
- Current CPR with AED certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support for Health Care Providers for adults and children from the American Heart Association.
Admitted students will be required to submit a $500 nonrefundable admissions deposit within a week to hold their spot in the cohort.
Transfer Students with Nursing Credit
- Transfer applicants who have completed college nursing courses in nationally accredited nursing or other health care programs are evaluated individually and may be given credit for courses that meet the requirements.
- Up to 70 units of community college credit and additional units from a university (per registrar’s approval) may be transferred. No community college nursing credit will be transferred. Applicants may petition to have nursing units transferred from a nationally accredited university, but must receive administrative approval for inclusion in total credits. Some nursing courses may also be challenged by the applicant if they have taken similar coursework from another accredited university.
- Students with transferable nursing courses must take UNRS 270 Theories and Concepts in Professional Nursing prior to any other nursing course at APU except UNRS 220 Health Assessment, which may be taken concurrently.
- Transfer students with nursing credit must meet the BS in Nursing Transfer program requirements for transfer applicants above, plus:
- Submit a letter of recommendation/academic standing from the dean/director of the previous school to the School of Nursing;
- Submit course syllabi and catalog descriptions for all courses for which nursing transfer credit is requested to the School of Nursing; and
- The School of Nursing will only consider accepting nursing courses transferred in from an accredited baccalaureate nursing program.
International Students
Please note: International students on an F-1 or J-1 visa are not currently eligible to apply for the 2+2 program, but may apply to the traditional BSN program.

APU students may take advantage of three basic types of financial aid: scholarships and grants, education loans, and student employment.
Scholarships and Grants
Scholarships and grants are considered “gift aid” and do not require repayment. They can come from federal, state, or private sources. Scholarships are typically merit-based, meaning they are awarded depending on demonstrated academic ability or other specific talents.
Scholarships are often available from sources outside of APU. You can search for these scholarships through websites such as finaid.org or fastweb.com. The Student Services Center is sometimes notified of scholarships available through APU departments or local organizations, and can provide information about any available scholarships on request.
Education Loans
Education loans are usually repaid after graduation, may be deferred until after graduate school, and often have very low interest rates.
Military Benefits
Military members—and in some cases their spouses and dependents—qualify for financial assistance covering tuition, housing, and books. Azusa Pacific is a Yellow Ribbon University and Military Friendly School, so you can be confident that you’ll receive the benefits and flexibility you need to complete your education.
Student Employment
On-campus student employment is available for students needing additional income to pay for education-related expenses. APU students also find work off campus in the surrounding community.
