Azusa Pacific University appoints Glendora, Calif., resident Louise Ko Huang, PhD, vice provost for academic services, as announced by Anita Fitzgerald Henck, PhD, provost and chief academic officer, effective July 1, 2024. Huang brings a deep commitment to student academic success, faculty development, and research.

“Dr. Huang’s breadth of roles since arriving at APU in 2009 uniquely prepares her to serve as vice provost for academic services,” Henck said. “Her commitment to student academic support will enhance students’ experience with a focus on improving retention and graduation rates. Her deep faith, passion for excellence, and full support of APU's values will enhance the work of the Office of the Provost while providing new vision and direction for this important work.”

As the vice provost for academic services, Huang will lead and advocate for APU’s academic mission by overseeing the Division of Student Success, the General Education program, the Office of Research and Grants, academic integrity, faculty development, visiting scholars, and commencement.

“I am very grateful and excited to serve alongside Anita and other academic leaders in the next season,” Huang said. “It is a privilege to continue investing in the areas of student success and faculty development while supporting the students God has entrusted us with as well as our esteemed faculty.”

Huang began teaching as an adjunct professor in APU’s Department of Biology and Chemistry in 2009. She became a part-time faculty member and began serving as director of the Center for Research in Science in 2016, before earning the rank of associate professor in 2022. Huang served as assistant dean for undergraduate studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) in 2018, and has served as interim dean of CLAS since 2022. She has served in a variety of roles and committee assignments at APU, including a current appointment as an Honors College Fellow; interim director (2019-20) and assistant director of General Education (2020-22); Fulbright program advisor (2018-20); chair, Student Success Working Group; and co-chair, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Equitable Student Experience Working Group (2021-22).
