Scholarships and Discounts

There are many financial aid options available to help make your education dreams a reality. Below are some of the discounts and scholarships available to students in the School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences; individuals applying to undergraduate programs are also encouraged to inquire with One Stop: Undergraduate Enrollment Services Center, while those interested in graduate programs are encouraged to contact Graduate and Professional Student Financial Services.

School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences Alumni Tuition Discounts

APU’s School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences (BAS) offers a 15 percent alumni tuition discount for APU alumni starting in the following graduate programs:

A 10 percent alumni tuition discount is available for APU alumni starting in the following graduate programs:

Students must maintain continuous enrollment half-time for the fall and spring terms. Students must be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress with a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0. If qualifications are met, the discount may be renewed each year until graduation. This discount cannot be combined with other institutional aid. CCCU Alumni Discount

APU’s School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences (BAS) offers a 10 percent CCCU alumni tuition discount for graduates of CCCU schools starting in the following graduate program:

Students must maintain continuous enrollment at least half-time for the fall and spring terms. Students must be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress with a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0. If qualifications are met, the discount may be renewed each year until graduation. This discount cannot be combined with other institutional aid. CCCU Employees Tuition Discount

In support of institutions affiliated with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU), APU offers a 10 percent tuition discount for the Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership or the Ph.D. in Higher Education program to any full-time faculty member or administrator of any CCCU-affiliated institution as long as the employing institution matches at least the 10 percent discount. The combined tuition discount cannot equal more than 100 percent. The amount of institutional aid is subject to coordination with federal, state, and institutional regulations, which may result in a reduction of this benefit. Plus One Discount

If two or more students from the same institution enroll in the same higher education cohort in the same year, each one is eligible to receive a 10% tuition discount. For more information, contact the department at doctoralhighered@apu.edu.

Law Enforcement Discount

The School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences offers a 15 percent tuition discount for eligible law enforcement employees, their spouses, and their dependents (up to age 26) starting in one of the following professional bachelor’s completion programs:

MOU Partner Tuition Discounts

Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) are agreements between Azusa Pacific University and various entities (such as cities, counties, and businesses) that allow for employees of those entities, their spouses, and their children (up to age 26) to receive a tuition discount for select Azusa Pacific programs. MOUs are a great way for employers to promote the professional development and advancement of their employees.

Bachelor’s Degree Completion Programs

The School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences offers a 15 percent tuition discount for eligible employees, their spouses, and their dependents up to age 26 of the following organizations who will start in one of APU’s professional bachelor’s degree completion programs—either the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice or the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

This tuition discount cannot be combined with other institutional aid and only applies to core courses (general education courses are not covered by discount). MFT Program

The School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences offers a 15 percent tuition discount for eligible employees of the Community Research Foundation, their spouses, and their dependents up to age 26 starting in the M.A. in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program at APU’s San Diego Regional Campus. Students fill out the 2018-19 BAS Graduate MOU Agreement Discount (PDF) and provide proof of employment along with a form every year of enrollment. Education and Physical Education Programs

The School of Education and the School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences offer a 10 percent tuition discount for eligible employees of the following districts, counties, and charter schools who will start in a graduate education program through the School of Education or a graduate physical education program through the School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences.

Please note: The School of Education’s doctoral program (Ed.D. in Educational Leadership) is not eligible for any MOU discount. The discount cannot be combined with other institutional aid.

Veteran Discount

The School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences offers a 15 percent tuition discount for eligible veterans, their spouses, and dependents starting in one of the following bachelor’s degree completion programs:

Applicants must fill out the APU Veteran Discount (PDF) form and provide proof of military service with the application. This tuition discount cannot be combined with other institutional aid and only applies to core courses (general education courses are not covered by discount). Clinical Psychology Scholarships

Psy.D. Teaching and Research Assistantships

Funds are allocated to provide four Teaching-Research Assistantships (TRAs) each academic year per cohort for a total of 16 positions throughout the program. TRAs receive 25 percent tuition remission plus an annual stipend of $3,125. TRAs must provide 8 hours of service per week in the Department of Clinical Psychology from September through June of each academic year.

Preference is given to applicants who evidence strong academic credentials (high GPA and GRE scores, in particular), financial need, and cultural knowledge and language skills that facilitate the provision of psychological services in an underserved community and commitment to provide psychological services in an underserved community following graduation. Higher Education Scholarships

College Counseling and Student Development Assistantships

A number of scholarships are available to CCSD students on an annual basis. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and/or merit and in amounts typically ranging from $1,000 to $7,000. Scholarship applicants are strongly encouraged to meet the CCSD program application priority deadline of January 31. The CCSD Scholarship Application is due by March 1. Ed.D./Ph.D. in Higher Education Fellowships

A limited number of academic merit and leadership scholarships are available to entering students whose admission portfolios have provided evidence of such merit and/or leadership. These $3,500 scholarships are awarded by faculty after reviewing the portfolio; no additional application is necessary. Continuing students may be supported by research or teaching assistantships of up to $2,000 a year, by faculty invitation only. Dissertation fellowships of $2,000 are awarded on a competitive basis at the dissertation proposal stage.

Physical Education Scholarships

Kyle Ian MacDonald Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor of Kyle Ian MacDonald, M.S. ’15, a graduate of APU’s M.S. in Physical Education program. The intent of this scholarship is to financially support students in the pursuit of teaching and mentoring students through coaching, physical education, exercise science, and sport management. Awards range from $2,500-$2,800. To apply, fill out the 2018-19 Kyle Ian MacDonald Memorial Scholarship Application (PDF) and email the completed form to sbautista@apu.edu.

Physical Therapy Scholarships

Physical Therapy Graduate Student Assistantships

Third-year Doctor of Physical Therapy students are eligible to apply for one of five graduate assistantships valued at $6,000 plus 50 percent remission of the third year’s tuition. Students awarded graduate assistantships are expected to work an average of 15 hours/week for one full year, assisting instructors with classroom and research duties. Applications for the assistantships are available in the Department of Physical Therapy.

Gawenda Seminars and Consulting Scholarship

This scholarship honors Gawenda’s appreciation of the Christian student in financial need in the incoming class of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. One scholarship approximating $1,000 is awarded annually to an incoming DPT student. The application deadline is January 31, 2019, for Summer 2019. Free Wheelchair Mission Scholarship

This scholarship from the Free Wheelchair Mission is given in appreciation for the support APU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program has provided over the years in developing, giving, and training within their organization. Eligibility: DPT II or DPT III students. The award ranges from $2,000 to $5,000 to be awarded annually based on availability of funds.
